It was the fall season of 1991 and I was spending the night at my grandparents house and in the middle of the night I woke up with pain in my right leg like cramps. I tried to walk it off but it would not stop. The pain became worse as the night went on. I woke up my grandparents and asked them what I could do because I could not fall back asleep and I had school the next day or in morning. The pain finally subsided and I was able to go back to sleep. Later that day the pain came back and it was worse, not only that the pain was now in my second leg at the same time. My mom thinking it was growing pains did not want o do anything about it like going to the doctor when I told her later that day. But later into the night the pain had reached my arms. Now thinking this cant be growing pains we went to a local doctor and he couldn't find anything wrong. So we went to another doctor about an hour away from home and he knew it wasn't growing pains. We went back home not knowing what to do. One of my moms cousins found out through the grape vine what was happening to me and told my mom about Egleston Hospital. So we took a trip to Egleston and went to see a pediatrician and when she finished examining me she told me I eed to see a Pediatric Oncologist immediatley. So we set up theappointment and I was checked out by the fabulous Dr. Pase(not sur of the spelling of his name.) He ran multiple test to eliminate probable causes. Finally he ordered a bi opsey on my right shoulder and the results were I had full blown cancer leukemia ALL. He said we have got to get you into treatment as soon as they can get me into a room which was going to take a few days to do. We spent over a week at the hospital running test to find out I had cancer. So my mom drove the 250 miles sout to go home so I could see my brother because I have not seen him in over a week and were are really close. The doctoe said that I had maybe 6 months to live without treatment. I was spending another day at my grandparents house while my mom was at work and while I was there I was feeling the pain all over my body. My grandparents was also having a pluming issue at their house so she called a friend of hers that owned a pluming business. Well when he arrived he came in and sw that I was really sick half awake asleep because of the pain and lack of sleep because of the pain. Well he fixed the issue at my grandparents house and before he left he sked my grandparents if they wanted him to pray over me and my grandparents had forgot thar he was also a pastor and they said something like please do or somethng like that. After praying for me he left and went on with what he had to do that day. Right after he left thr phone rang, it was Dr. Pase calling about the results of the bi opsey. He had told my grandparents that he went back himself and re ran the test and this time yielded different results and the result was.......the cancer in my bosy had decreased in severity. My mom came home in time for dinner and my grandparents took my mom outside and my grandparents started crying as they told my mom of the great news that got from the the Dr. Pase. A couple of days later we finally was going to be able to get a room and a privite room which there is not that many of there at the time. Dr. Pase came in to ask my mom a serious question with a statement which was: Without the treatment I would not survive but with it I have a chance at surviving but t is not a guarntee and it will not be easy to go through. My mom told Dr. Pase that it was my decision to make also that if I didnt want to do it she would not proceed with treatment. Dr. Pase broke it down for me so I could understand what kind of decision I was making. Of couse I said I will go for the treatment. Soon I was approached by a person from Camp Sunshine and I was not able to go the first time, I wanted to go. :( But I went in the summer of 1992. I was on treatment until 1995 and that year I went into remission and I am still in remission!!!! As for camp I went to Camp Sunshine as a Camper until 2001 and went back the next 2 years as a CIT. (Will fill in more info as I remember)
